I've been trying to migrate away from snapchat for years now because everything about it irritates me but I've still got like 3 stragglers for whom it is my main form of communication.

I'm pretty sure they connect it to your device ID

If you logged in using a phone number they're referencing you from other people who have you in their contacts.

If you tell them no, they just dick you from another angle

This is what I thought too until I noticed the contacts listed were using the names I have for them - "apprehension", "brazzle", "dizzy", "momster", "Jared who hit me".

They're not using another angle to dick people over, they're just ignoring security preferences and blaming us for getting mad

If you can prove that, you'd probably have a nice story on your hand. I don't think there's currently a known way an app can bypass system permissions for contacts on current Android/iOS.
