There are a few plastics that are recyclable in large enough pieces. It's just that so much of our packaging and products are just mixed or thin plastics with a lot of printing which are not in any way recyclable. Now when I say recyclable I mean plausibly do-able at scale, with a decent quality output material suitable as feedstock for manufacturing, not profitably recyclable.
