I saw a really great quote recently by gianmarco soresi (I'm paraphrasing here): widespread cancel culture had led to people denying that their favorite authors could possibly have done horrible things.

    A work can be a masterpiece and also have been created by a monster.

    The author of Shakespeare's works almost certainly expressed viewpoints that would be unacceptable to us. This doesn't mean that Hamlet is suddenly not worth experiencing.
