Pretty sure we did this as well with canetoads to kill snakes or cane bugs or something.

    This is true. What they didnt know is that in their natural habitat, the environmental conditions for cane toad breeding only happen rarely throughout the year. In Australia, the conditions for cane toad breeding occur basically year round. So they constantly are reproducing at an exponential rate compared to what they do in their natural habitat
