Does privacy sound like a good reason to use Chrome? permalink fedilink source hideshow 6 child comments replies: [–] artyom@piefed.social 8 points 5 months ago (2 children) I'm honestly regularly shocked at how many people use Chrome on Linux. Turns out many people actually use Linux for the user experience and flexibility, and not for privacy. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] fratermus@piefed.social 3 points 5 months ago I’m honestly regularly shocked at how many people use Chrome on Linux. I generally prefer to run firefox (ESR) on my debian machines. But I regularly open a couple dozen tabs during a research session and sometimes FF eats eat all my RAM (16GB), then swap, then locks up the machine. If I catch the degradation before lockup sometimes I can kill enough tabs to recover. I had a few of those lockups last month before I got tired of it. So for now I've swapped back to chromium to get around that problem. Same behavior on my part, ~same extensions, but chromium's RAM usage stays sane. permalink fedilink source parent [–] RodgeGrabTheCat@sh.itjust.works 1 point 5 months ago Really? I'll admit to being shocked as well. permalink fedilink source parent [–] evol@lemmy.today 5 points 5 months ago (1 child) I use Linux for work and our company requires chrome to view Google Docs and such permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [+] umbrella@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) [deleted] permalink fedilink source parent [–] vermaterc@lemmy.ml [S] 5 points 5 months ago (2 children) Most people are using Linux for the privacy benefits citation needed permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] Leny@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago (1 child) "Linux users shall not be using Chrome" Sir Isaac Newton. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] IratePirate@feddit.org 4 points 5 months ago* "Thou shalt not use the Chrome, unless thou wantst be hung from yonder tree by thine ballsack!"
