I added some rate limiting to try to coax out the right culture on this Reddit alternative. I'm trying to create a culture that is more positive and not just news. (goatmatrix.net)

What would you do to encourage the right culture? Especially when we just had a migration from Saidit going down and a single user can spam so much news it becomes the site.

I think I have wrestled it back successfully and we have some good content again. Woo! The rate limit means that a single user who means well can't topple an existing culture just by sheer posting volume.

I go to these webpages for news and discussion, haha.

Yes, of course, I appreciate people's projects and I understand some people are here to organize groups, and that is wonderful, but I feel that for some people this is just for news, comedy, memes.

And that's fine..!

But one thing I really agree with is... "Talking about ideas" is rated above either.

For me, I see the news actually as a means of getting to talk about ideas much of the time.

Anyhow, good post, and I definitely hope that you are experiencing success on your Lemmy instance.
