Donald Trump has promoted Mora Namdar — an attorney, part-time salon owner and former Project 2025 author — in a senior role that oversees visa approvals, issuing passports, and is responsible for the welfare of U.S. citizens overseas.

Namdar, of Texas, whose parents are Iranian immigrants, was sworn in this week as the State Department’s new assistant secretary for the Bureau of Consular Affairs after working on U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East and North Africa within the agency.

The 38-year-old’s new role could see her deciding the fates of migrants applying for visas who have been critical of the Trump administration, according to testimony she gave before a Senate committee in October.

I didn't make strong opinions one way or another, except over the quality of the journalism. Yes, the comparison with AOC is apt, because both references to their work history are to the least important part.

I'm not going over all the other points, I've covered them elsewhere in more detail than this article has. That's my main point. They are being far too dismissive of someone, and focusing on irrelevances rather than legitimate concerns. If you want to do that as well, don't be surprised if she's far more effective at her job, which probably isn't in the best interests of America, than you or they expected her to be.

    Sure, Republican. We'll, at least I know you weren't reading my history, or this comment thread, before you spouted that nonsense.

    The whole point of everything I've said in this post is, people you disagree with can still be competent, and denying such is only going to make you less prepared when they exercise that competence in ways you disagree with.
