[–] Tencho@lemmy.world 8 points 8 months ago (2 children) Heart warming. Are they this kind to immigrants? I've been thinking about heading that direction for a few years. People keep telling me EU is in decline. But they still seem nicer than the Americas permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] TheJesusaurus@sh.itjust.works 15 points 8 months ago (1 child) People are kind, a state can't be kind, it just is. I'm sure Germans are generally kind of folks but by and large states do not extend social welfare benefits to non-citizens. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 5 points 8 months ago (1 child) So the yanks don’t all move there haha permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] HopeOfTheGunblade@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 8 months ago (1 child) I am not going to dump a load of bitterness on you. You are not the architect of our problems, but like. You know some of us hate every minute of this and are powerless targets, right? permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 7 points 8 months ago (1 child) Yep, and you’re not the only ones. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] HopeOfTheGunblade@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 8 months ago Yeah. There are a lot of people outside of the country who do not even have the limited legal recourse available to me, should I be snatched from the street. For those this administration has harmed both actively and passively outside the borders, there is not even really the opportunity to be one of the few who gets an active effort to pull from their fucked up systems. Thanks for the nudge away from staring at my own feet. permalink fedilink source parent [–] glorkon@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago Well, I'm not quite sure which requirements there are for immigration to Germany, and which conditions there are on getting welfare once you got here. They obviously would like to avoid having people immigrating into the welfare system. And of course, Germany isn't the land where milk and honey flow either, many people struggle too. I had a bit of luck for sure. But I very much feel Germany is a much more forgiving place to live. That's why I would never move to the US under any circumstances, even for a tripled paycheck. permalink fedilink source parent
