I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.... in Messages on iOS 16 and before, couldn't you swipe right anywhere on the left side of the screen to get back to the main list? In iOS 17, I have to reach all the way to the top-left arrow to go back, a more daunting task on my new larger screen. Absolute torture! Or, am I missing something?

Works for me too. Do a full reboot (volume up volume down then hold the wake button on the right.
