it's unfortunate that righties learned the word "liberal", causing confusion like this. but it's funny that so many of them technically are liberals if you want to be pedantic with definitions

    Probably to make the transition to fascism easier for the right wingers. 'No, I'm not an ultra left liberal! I will support your anti-liberal stance, mister A.H.!'

    Your right wing extremism is less likely to be seen as extreme if you paint something as liberals to the extreme left of your ideology.
