Maybe it depends on the client? I have a default upvote for anything I post or comment.

Edit: Ive heard it's different for kbin

    I made a point of checking the original url before commenting because kbin has had a few differences that caught me out in the past.

    also if you're client isn't federating the upvote does it even exist?

    I'm not sure what you mean that the client is responsible for federating an upvote, that should be up to the instance.

    I am not sure what you are saying. I see an upvote on both of your comments.

    that's the rub, so many discrepancies are client side. my favourite is how much of a mess community linking is across clients.

    and it sounds like your upvote situation is all client side, no upvotes over here.
