[–] shortrounddev@lemmy.world 21 points 1 year ago* (2 children) Not only is it not unique to capitalism, it's DEFINITELY not unique to America lmao labor being that he is exploited so someone can profit That's not what labor means lol permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] ahornsirup@feddit.org 17 points 1 year ago (1 child) Also Kids picking family farms is not “child labor.” Yes it fucking is. What the hell. What else would it be? The fact that it's the parents directly exploiting their children does not make it better. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [+] flandish@lemmy.world -15 points 1 year ago (1 child) A corporation owning capital is hiring children to labor while they knowingly exploit them. A parent exploiting their children to work in a family plot is also a form of child labor but it is not the same. Nor is it capitalist Both are abusing children. Both deserve prison. But only one is capitalism. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [+] SARGE@startrek.website 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 2 days ago) [deleted] permalink fedilink source parent [+] flandish@lemmy.world -12 points 1 year ago (1 child) You have a fundamental misunderstanding of what labor is, especially in regards to this picture. A) this is an american picture, it’s therefore unique to America. B) the child is laboring for someone’s profit. This is, sure, part of feudalism, but the system under which the picture is taken is capitalism. Do you also think the kid is pushing out a baby because they are “laboring”? permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Whelks_chance@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (1 child) "Domestic labour" is a term that refutes the point you're trying to make. Labour just means effort, there's no implicit connection to profit. In fact women's labour has traditionally been unpaid forever, but it's still work. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [+] flandish@lemmy.world -14 points 1 year ago (1 child) Sigh. Capitalist labor is different than domestic labor than birth labor etc. Do you also think buffalos have wings?
