This sounds like a joke, but cigarettes were in fact used to treat asthma at some point.

    Datura Stramonium cigarettes to be precise. That plant can give you a nasty horror trip if you consume to much of it.

    I’ve tried that, wouldn’t recommend it. Last time I did I almost wrecked my entire apartment.

    Haha. Yeah, well, the stuff worked alright. Definitely not bunk. It just wasn't the most pleasant experience. But considering how many people have managed to kill themselves with research chemicals, perhaps making it through alive CAN be considered success.
