You're scared of losing basically half an oblast which already costs millions of dollars and hundreds of deaths a year to hold onto, and has an active separatist movement which cannot and will not cooperate with the Ukrainian government. All Donbass will bring you is more violence and diplomatic headaches. Holding it at all costs will either bring nuclear war, world war, or at the very least worse separatism.
