• CVE-2026-8933, discovered by Qualys, allows local attackers to escalate privileges. It impacts default installations of Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and Ubuntu 26.04 LTS. The CVSS 3.1 score assigned to the vulnerability is 7.8 (high).
• CVE-2026-15226, discovered by Zygmunt Krynicki, Canonical team member, allows local attackers to escape snap confinement from confined root to unconfined root. The CVSS 3.1 score assigned to the vulnerability is 8.4 (high).
• CVE-2024-5300 discovered by James Henstridge, Canonical team member, allows a sandboxed application to access hashed user passwords. This vulnerability impacts installations of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Ubuntu, 22.04 LTS, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and Ubuntu 26.04 LTS where systemd-userdbd is available. The CVSS 3.1 score assigned to the vulnerability is 5.6 (medium).

The following table lists the affected snaps. Revisions with patches will be updated as they are released.

The snapd package distributed via the Ubuntu archive is also affected in the following releases. Fixes have been released as security updates.

I just wanna let you know I built Ubuntu ISO image with integrated COSMIC DE, which is building on my PPA: https://launchpad.net/~hepp3n/+archive/ubuntu/cosmic-epoch

Currently updating to epoch-1.0.16. The debs are directly from upstream, rebuild on launchpad with amd64v3 enabled (not recommended tho).

The iso have baked PPA for updating DE binaries. Ubuntu/GNOME sessions are removed with most of the GNOME packages.

The experience is nice, if you like Ubuntu and COSMIC it should fit your needs ^^

Some of the more interesting points:

• simplified installation experience that dramatically reduces complexity during partitioning and storage configuration
• new onboarding experience that moves personalization and system setup into a dedicated first-boot experience. Rather than asking users to make every decision during installation

I just upgraded to 26.04 and had to spend some time researching and messing around before I found out a specific package was missing which solved my problems. That package is gnome-shell-ubuntu-extensions!

So yea, after installing that package (with apt) and logging out and back in again, I opened the gnome extensions manager app/thing, and saw desktop icons NG, Ubuntu Appindicators, Tiling Assistant & Dock extensions are all present.

Just thought I'd make this post so that in the off chance someone has the same issue and looks for the solution on lemmy, they can see this and know the solution?

I installed Ubuntu 24.04 LTS about a year ago. Now that 26.04 is out, I was planning to upgrade, but instead I think I'm going to wipe and re-install from scratch. Does anyone have any tips or tweaks they recommend for new installs? Things like, do or don't encrypt the drive during the install process, make an administrator account separate from your regular user account? I already plan to install the Flatpak repo and the Gnome Software Center.
