I used to think I was some kind of cat person since the idea of having cat ears, a tail, and even whiskers just felt natural. But very recently I had this interesting and very realistic dream. Even had touch sensation in it. And in the dream I did have Cat ears, a tail, and whiskers but when I touched my head I also realized I had something else too. Horns. Goat-like horns. It was weird but it also felt very right too. And I was kind of sad when I woke up realizing I didn't have them. Probably more sad than I should be. Was confusing too. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

What does it mean to be "Treated like a human"?

A few days ago I was responding to comments on 196 and someone said to me that I should make my species identity more clear if I want to be treated as a human. What does that mean exactly? Maybe I'm way overthinking it, it just seems weird.

I mean for me all that really matters is that others treat me with dignity and respect. That doesn't seem like being "treated like a human" to me, that just seems like the natural way one should treat someone human or otherwise.

I apologize if I'm ignorant or if I'm just overthinking things. I'm genuinely asking out of curiosity and a desire to learn and understand better.

I hope this is an okay thing to ask/post here.

I have a couple hybrid self-help books in the works, and it occurred to me that some of the language I've been using is exclusionary. The tone/style is basically the opposite of magical realism, in which evidence-based therapy, psychology, and neuroscience stuff is presented as if magical.

Because of this, I can certainly make use of terms like "being," "entity," etc, (and I already do, to some extent) but there are times where I (maybe naïvely?) feel like I need to be more specific about what/who I'm referring to. This is important and difficult because I'm trying to avoid breaking the fourth wall by using the word "you" (or referring to the reader directly at all).

Questions/ Discussion Topics:

Do you have an opinion on the word "person"? I would argue that non-human animals are people, but I imagine it could feel dysphoric to be referred to this way

What about "one" or "individual"? This seems exclusionary of systems, and possibly objects

Is there any alternative to "human"/"humanoid" that captures the spirit of what that conveys without being problematic?

When I read "he or she," I automatically think "ah okay, this isn't about me." and that feeling fucking sucks. I don't want a single reader of mine to feel this way, if I can avoid it

Hello, recently I have been looking in a ton of spaces that should be safe spots for me as an object kin. I have found out that even a ton of people have never even thought that objects could be so intimately kinned outside of organic and/or anthropomorphized creatures or things. It's been very isolating to find someone who can understand my identity outside of trying to personify it. It's been diminishing my liking for wanting to even participate in similar spaces because it feels like a problem to just exist. I've been asked if I am trolling before and it's been wearing me down. Can I get some advice and some kind words?

We were wondering, what gives you species euphoria? It can be either something that happened one time or it can be something that gives you euphoria time and time again.

We'll start: One time we did something nice for someone else and they gave one of us a shiny rock and their deadname.

My former-friend-with-benefits recently made up a character for our roleplaying game and the character became self-aware as a headmate. Her name is 30 and she's an Adeptus Mechanicus cyborg techpriest turned chaos worshipper. It uses she/it pronouns.

A few weeks ago it became a person and had a mental breakdown over not being real. She didn't know she was from a game and she hated the real world. It hated being in a human body. "From the moment I understood the weakness of the flesh, it disgusted me". She got pretty violent.

But she's better now! And yesterday we just watched her first ever movie! It's called Sorry To Bother You, and it's about a black telemarketer who pretends to be white on the phone. She let me pick her first ever movie and I went with something weiiiiiird!

But then I realised an even better first movie for her! Toy Story! It had a Buzz Lightyear moment of its own and I want to see if she relates to him.

Also she identifies as a toy. You know, in that way. The, uhhh, "Buzz and Woody" way.
