Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras members have voted to remove two members of activist group Pride in Protest from the organisation’s Board at a dramatic Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) following months of internal feuding among the Board directors.

Mardi Gras (SGLMG) members gathered in Sydney for the EGM on Saturday (July 4). In late May, a Pride in Protest and Mardi Gras member’s petition reached a threshold to trigger such a meeting, which is separate to the organisation’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).

The petition followed a months-long dispute over trans rights and political advocacy motions that SGLMG members passed at last year’s AGM and a feud between the directors over the organisation’s response.

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (SGLMG) have called an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) in 7 days following a motion from Pride in Protest (PiP) that could see co-chairs Mits Delisle and Kathy Pavlich removed as board directors. Make your vote count. Proxy nominations close on Wednesday.

I really hope this succeeds and these TERFs get kicked out of power.

SA Health continues to ban Gender Affirming Surgery in Public Hospitals. In July 2023 SA Health released the Statewide Gender Diversity Model of Care, and Flinders Medical Centre has been investigating the development of a public clinic for gender affirming surgeries. However, early this year, Flinders sent an update saying the service is still awaiting approval, leaving trans people in limbo, uncertain about the future of their healthcare.

The reforms expand “post and boast” offences to include assault and robbery following reported attacks against LGBTQIA+ people in NSW. They introduce new offences for offenders who lure victims under false pretences, including through dating apps. The laws were introduced in the wake of the shocking ABC investigation into a rise of IS-terrorist inspired attacks on young gay and bi men in Sydney.

A new Amnesty International UK report has found that four UK newspapers published 17,000 articles relating to “trans issues” in the span of five years, averaging nine articles a day, amplifying anti-trans perspectives and turning trans lives into a “top-tier political debate”.

In the report titled Like a snowball: the growth and impact of the gender critical movement in the UK, Amnesty analysed the growing influence of anti-trans organisations on media coverage and political debate in the UK.

It found that reportage “overwhelmingly” favoured anti-trans campaigners for commentary, with minimal inclusion of trans voices on stories about and affecting them.

The report also found that the excessive coverage was disproportionate to the size of the transgender population, which totals only 0.5 per cent in the total UK population.

In Australia, advocates and researchers warn similar patterns are emerging locally, with QNews’ own anecdotal review finding hundreds of trans-related stories published across major outlets in 2026 alone.

The former member was allegedly asked to leave the building and informed that authorities would be called if she returned.

Back in 1973, trans woman Kim Quinn spoke about the importance of living your truth at a time when trans visibility was scarce. With her husband Peter by her side, the couple shared how their love endured in the face of prejudice. They appeared on the ABC current affairs program This Day Tonight.

"A few months ago we added feedback forms and consent to data collection forms to help us get better at what we do. We are zapping and recording more zapping-data than any single entity in the country. Its such a cool opportunity and I wanted to use that to make things better for everyone, I want to reinvent the gold standard for treatment.

Instead, I mostly got people commenting on how much of an eyesore the website is 😂😂. ...and like hey, I don't disagree 😂😂😂.

But rebuilding or relocating the website is a super expensive project, and I try to run things at just barely profitable in favour of keeping things as accessible as possible for the community and making sure the staff are paid well for their skill. Which unfortunately doesnt leave a huge amount of discretionary funds.

But it doesnt leave nothing either.

I would like to pay someone to redesign our website, to make it more user friendly. Mostly just the aesthetics, the underlying machinery will probably have to stay consistent. This would probably involve a bit of colaboration with me on what the site needs for technical and business reasons too.

But.. making it less ugly really would be great.

The builder we use is Wix, not because its the best, but because its cheap enough*, it worked well enough** for complex scheduling and its what I had access to when it was just lil ol me zapping on my own and I had no idea how to actualy make a website or run a business***.

Alison Penfold, who represents the New South Wales seat of Lyne, has announced she’ll put forward a private members bill next session to change the laws.

Penfold outlined her intentions to Sky News presenter Peta Credlin, who has also been a prominent campaigner against the current laws.

“This is an important issue in my community and across Australia.” Penfold said, but she admitted she had little hope of actually changing the laws while Labor was in government.

A court ruling that the exclusion of transgender woman Roxanne Tickle from a female-only app was discriminatory has been upheld.

Ms Tickle has been awarded $20,000 in damages in the case against the Giggle for Girls app and its CEO Sall Grover.

A judge previously ruled Ms Tickle was discriminated against due to her gender identity after her access to the social media platform was restricted in 2021.
