Prime Minister Han Seong-sook on Thursday revealed a target of cutting traffic accident deaths by 30 percent by 2030 through wider use of artificial intelligence, data and advanced technologies.

"We established countermeasures to reduce traffic accidents by analyzing the patterns in recurring accidents and key risk factors," Han said at a ministerial meeting on Thursday.

According to Han, 2,549 people died in traffic accidents last year or about seven deaths per day.

Han said the government will expand the use of AI-powered pedestrian signals that can automatically extend the duration of a light when it detects pedestrians on the crosswalks. The government also plans to prevent recurring accidents and major accidents through the use of data and advanced technologies.

"We will focus first on reducing fatalities among vulnerable groups, such as pedestrians, where traffic accident deaths are concentrated," Han said.

The government outlined increasing subsidies for installing pedal misapplication prevention devices, as well as improving policies to better identify drivers with diminished physical or cognitive abilities.

Paris (France) (AFP) – A specially modified Airbus A350 plane touched down in France Tuesday after a record 24-hour test flight from Australia, ahead of it joining Qantas's fleet next year.

Its 23,076-kilometre (14,339-mile) journey -- across three continents and two oceans, and through two sunsets and two dawns -- was one of the most-watched flights shown on the Flightradar24 tracking site.

It was also a crucial step before Australian airline Qantas receives its first A350-1000ULR in April next year, to be followed by 11 others for services able to link Australia non-stop to destinations in the United States and Europe.

The ULR in its designation stands for "ultra long distance", a feat made possible by an additional 20,000-litre rear centre fuel tank being fitted to Airbus's A350-1000 model.

The flight from Australia to France took precisely 24 hours and 24 minutes.

Chinese artificial intelligence startup DeepSeek on Friday released a preview version of its long-awaited V4 large language model, allowing users to test its new capabilities and features.

The release comes more than a year after DeepSeek introduced its R1 reasoning model, which rocked global tech markets due to its surprising performance and efficiency, despite reportedly being developed for much lower costs than U.S. rivals.

Similar to DeepSeek’s previous V3 model, the latest upgrade is open source, allowing developers to download the code, run it locally, and modify it.

The Hangzhou-based company claimed that V4 achieves strong performance against domestic competitors, particularly in agent-based tasks, knowledge processing and inference.

The company added that DeepSeek-V4 has been optimized for use with popular agent tools such as Anthropic’s Claude Code and OpenClaw.

(Christina Urso) Silicon Valley is dumping over $100 million into a network of political action committees (PACs) and various organizations to advocate against regulation of artificial intelligence.

The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that venture-capital firm Andreessen Horowitz and OpenAI President Greg Brockman are “among those helping launch and fund Leading the Future, a new super-PAC network focused on AI.” Other backers of the network include Palantir Technologies co-founder Joe Lonsdale and Ron Conway from Perplexity.

The new Pro-AI PAC network, “Leading the Future,” will use campaign donations and digital ads to promote candidates who advocate for favorable AI regulation, and to oppose candidates whose policies the network thinks will stifle the industry. The PACs are led by former staffers for Sen. Chuck Schumer, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and former Sen. Mitt Romney.

The network has taken inspiration from the pro-crypto super PAC network Fairshake, which helped President Trump secure his victory in 2024.
