Syncspirit is continuous peer-to-peer realtime syncrhonization tool. It implements BEP protocol and provides seamless interoperability with existing syncthing nodes and clients.

I'm trying to ditch Google Calendar for a totally server-less approach, while still being able to share what I'm up to with certain contacts. Any guidance (via Syncthing or not) would be appreciated!

Syncspirit is independent BEP protocol implementation. Like syncthing is continuous peer-to-peer file synchronization tool.

You can download ready-to-use binaries for Linux x86_64 (AppImage), Windows 32 bit (WindowsXP is supported), Windows 64 bit and Mac OS X (Apple silicon, xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine syncspirit-fltk.app is required to launch).

Notable changes:

• [fltk] allow to regenereate certificate/key pair and soft restart
• [core] reduce memory consumption to ~30%
• [core] do not consume CPU when idle
• [core] govern file system operations (scan, read, write, delete etc.) from control thread
• [core, bugfix] use system/default ssl root CAs to connect to syncthing infrastructure (might require to delete configuration from previous installation).
• [fltk, bugfix] fogetting to insert deleted folder into pending list

Syncthing vs Obsidian Remotely Save

I want to sync my Obsidian files between Windows and Android. Between using Syncthing and Obsidian Remotely Save plugin, which would be an better option for me if I only care about sync performance, security, regex support and battery usage?

Syncthing seems to be a better option, though I'm not sure whether it supports encryption when transmitting data and regex. but it requires constant running in the background so I would say it consumes more battery power than remotely save

Remotely Save plugin is a bit buggy in my opinion (experienced a few file lost and incorrect sync when creating new files) but it supports encryption in transmitting data and regex.

Several different, random seeming files across various different Syncthing folders keep failing to sync even after restart, rescan, and reconfiguration, with the below error

syncing: finishing: opening temp file: open /storage/emulated/0/Pictures/Webcam/.syncthing.2024-07-1621:42:30.jpg.tmp: operation not permitted

I don't how how to fix it, the desktop app has the required permissions, and the Android app has as many storage permissions as I can give it under Android's horrible SAF limitations.

It seemed to used to be happening only to some specific old files, but now it's happening to all the new files I add onto my laptop under Videos or Music.

In addition, when trying to sync files with a specific server, it shows as disconnected, even when both are online and connected to the LAN (my phone via WiFi, the server via Ethernet), and there is some error about encryption expectations

2025-06-20 23:33:38: Failure checking encryption consistency with device server for folder "Music" (8ipwu-ehye4): remote expects to exchange encrypted data, but is configured for plain data

The server is running Syncthing GUI on Fedora GNOME, same as the laptop (which does work besides for the first issue), so I don't know what the difference is that would be causing this, not a single file has been synced to the server.

This is honestly making me want to get a Fairphone 5 with Ubuntu touch to get rid of these issues, but I can't do that now.

If anyone could advise, I would really appreciate it!

Apparently, my phone (which is an intermediary across PCs) didn't sync properly and now I have a couple of sync conflicts of spreadsheets (specifically LibreOffice Calc's .ODS files). These are... kinda large tables I've got here, with multiple tabs.

Normally with .TXT files I can easily use VSCodium's file-comparison feature to instantly spot highlighted line discrepancies on both sides, but how might you resolve spreadsheet conflicts?

Is there no other way than to page down monitor-size by monitor-size in each file, Alt+Tabbing from one to the other and visually inspecting for changes every step of the way until you spot something (hopefully)? I can't think of any less-tedious way...

... apart from, hmm, I guess my own folly in not noting version changes at the top of each file. I guess I'm only used to doing that with actual code... but I may have to start doing so with all synced, regularly edited files...

Man, I don't understand why Catfriend1 just puts a literal period or bullet point for the version notes. It always freaks me out into wondering if the account was hacked and if the app was compromised and would cause file deletion or something. This app has become too useful!
