For about the last fourteen years or so, ever since I had played through Final Fantasy XIII-2 (which is still, even now, my favorite title) I always had this ideal image of a massive sort of metropolis in the distant future, somewhat similar to the representation of Academia in that game: hundreds of floors up, a bright but overcast day, happiness and laughter, the A-note of cars flying above and below the plaza level, holograms on the walls in such a number that Kabuki-cho looks like a quaint residential neighborhood.

It'll always just be an ideal, though, because of all the reality problems raising their heads: what about the people on the 100th floor, do they ever see sunlight? How did society build this dense? Such like that. But it's still an aesthetic ideal to chase and one I really enjoy.

I need to tell you about the absolute brutal shit I went to get through to get this picture.

Four exposures, stacked and bracketed at -2, -1, 0, and +1. Doing an exposure at 2 would have made me bring out the bulb and since I don't have a remote shutter, I gotta do it with my phone, and I wouldn't wish CanonConnect on Stephen Miller. So that said, I stood there at Kerry Park in Seattle, amongst seventy or a hundred other people, and they were all trying to capture this with their terrible little phone sensors, and I had my actual real shit, I was the only one with an actual camera.

So I took my exposures and some extra ones on the side, came back home to Portland, and set to work. My +1 was slightly off, just a little windblown. Darktable doesn't give a shit, it's not aligning nothing. I had Hugin stack up my control points and try to align it, told me it was a success, but every last point of light looked like AI circa '22, so that was a no-go.

In the end, I just edited the 0 exposure and just went with that. Dammit.

Thanks for seeing my frustrating work.

Oh also @nothingcorporate@lemmy.today, eat your heart out, here's a space needle.

Wanna do a two-fer? Let's do a two-fer. I'm posting two images tonight.

Pictured is some sort of angry bird-thing plotting revenge and violence. Taken with a telephoto, naturally. I still have most of my limbs.

I don't care about the waterfowl bakemono there, but the texture of the water and the colors it reflects are so good.

Thanks for seeing my work!

An old abandoned boat, covered in interesting graffiti that I’ll post more of when editing is done. However, as one can see by the shapes and arcs of the scrapes on the hull, this boat was clearly clawed at by Godzilla.

Also today is still my birthday, I’m 41.

Thanks for seeing my work!

Not pictured: Greek column, rotating skull, a pixel matrix, the phrase 「悲しい彼女の時間」, and all the rest of the vaporwave stereotypes.

More of the head in focus:
Macro photo of an Dainty damselfly perched on a reed.

Gobble gobble:
Close-up photo of an Dainty damselfly that's eating a bug; perched on the top of a reed.

Edit: no idea if this is a Dainty damselfly, Azure damselfly, or common blue damselfly. The third close-up photo was taken on another day, which was identified as an Azure damselfly (Azure bluet), but the recent macro was shot on the exact same location, but identified as a Dainty damselfly.
