There was a revealing post in the welter of reaction that followed the all too predictable dismissal of the Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Friday. It was made by Danny Danon, Israel’s ambassador to the UN, who warned New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

Danon repeated the claim - that now appears to be established as fact - that Khan used the warrants against Netanyahu and his former defence minister to cover up his alleged sexual misdemeanours.

As Middle East Eye investigation made clear, Khan launched the meticulously prepared warrants six weeks before he was even aware of the allegations. But truth and due process were irrelevant in the 18-month campaign to remove Khan.

This included a media campaign in the Wall Street Journal, Associated Press, The Guardian and latterly CNN; private warnings by David Cameron, then foreign secretary, who told him Britain would defund the ICC and withdraw from the Rome Statute if the warrants were issued; Republican senators who told him: "Target Israel and we will target you", and being named publicly as a suspect before he had even had the chance to defend himself by the president of the Assembly of State Parties (ASP), Finland's Paivi Kaukoranta.

Following the removal of Khan, the ICC’s office of the prosecutor said its work would continue without interruption. The ICC has more than a dozen active investigations in Ukraine, Darfur, Libya and Afghanistan.

But as MEE reported, the office sought in April to issue an arrest warrant for Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, and another for National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir was being prepared. Those applications were ready before Khan went on leave in May 2025 and nothing has happened since.

Israeli opposition leader and former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said that he “will not allow a Palestinian state to be established”, even at the cost of normalisation with Saudi Arabia.

“I am not giving up territory, period,” Bennett said in an interview with Israeli Channel 12, stating repeatedly that he will advocate for sweeping reforms across the Israeli state if elected.

Israel is gearing up for a general election on 27 October, widely seen as one of the most consequential in the country’s history, which could end Benjamin Netanyahu’s tenure and that of his right-wing Likud Party.

A recent poll by the Israeli newspaper Maariv showed Likud dropping to 20 seats, followed by Yashar party, led by former army chief Gadi Eisenkot, which reached a record poll high of 23 seats. Bennett's Together party came third in the polling with 17 seats.

Bennett’s opposition to a two-state solution is nothing new: he has long maintained that he will do everything in his power to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state.

He went further in 2018, saying that if he became defence minister, he would authorise a "shoot-to-kill" policy against Palestinians attempting to cross the Gaza-Israel border.

When asked whether this policy would apply to children, he replied: “They are not children. They are terrorists.”

Hello everyone,

My name is Mofeed, and I am a father from Gaza.

My family has been living through extremely difficult circumstances. Our home was destroyed, and we have been displaced. Every day is a struggle to provide food, water, medicine, and safety for my family.

I have a young child, my wife is pregnant, and my elderly mother depends on us. Despite everything, we continue to do our best to stay together and live with dignity.

I am sharing our story because I hope it reaches people who care. Even if you cannot help financially, sharing our story with others would mean a lot to us and could help us reach someone who can.

If you would like to know more about our situation or support our family, you can visit my profile.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for standing with innocent civilians during these difficult times.

International community must end Israel’s media blackout on Gaza, protect journalists, ensure access to press equipment (Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, 2026-07-26)

https://euromedmonitor.org/en/article/7084
———

>> Urgent international efforts are needed to lift the media blackout in the Gaza Strip, protect journalists, enable the immediate entry of independent international media, and ensure access to protective gear and press equipment, as journalists continue to be targeted for over 1,000 days during the ongoing genocide in the enclave.

>> Barring foreign journalists and independent international media from entering Gaza during this time, along with targeting Palestinian journalists, hampers independent international oversight of Israel’s ongoing crimes in the #Gaza Strip. This restriction makes independent verification of events difficult and hinders the collection of evidence on serious violations of international law…

De-Normalize Israel (www.caitlinjohnst.one)

Basically we’ve got two choices: we either aggressively denormalize Israel or we watch our society become more and more Israeli.

We either collectively reject Israel, or we watch western militaries fuse inseparably with the IDF.

We either turn support for Israel into political campaign poison, or we watch politicians obliterate our right to criticize Israel while backing increasingly evil Israeli military agendas.

We either ferociously oppose our government’s involvement in middle eastern wars, or we watch Israeli leaders grow more and more ecstatic as more and more western blood and treasure flows into the war machine.

We either normalize viewing Israel as a freakish abomination, or we sit passively watching authoritarian Zionist operations like Palantir get inseparably interwoven into every level of western power institutions.

We either stand together to oppose Israel for the racist apartheid state that it is, or we watch our Muslim neighbors suffer increasing discrimination and abuse at home while our governments help massacre our Muslim brothers and sisters using high-tech war machinery abroad.

The west’s growing collective rejection of Israel is the growth of the western conscience. The burgeoning pro-Palestine movement. The disgust with the Iran war. Young people’s cultural cringe around all things Israeli. The increasingly unapologetic eye-rolling every time “antisemitism” is used as an excuse to shut down criticism of Israel. These are signs that we are growing morally healthier.

That’s a good thing. The more we unite around a red hot “NO” to Israel and Zionism, the harder it will be for those in power to normalize the increasing Israelification of our society.

Israel’s far-right minister of national security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, joined thousands of Jewish extremists who stormed Jerusalem’s most sensitive holy site on Thursday.

Escorted by armed police, they prayed, waved the Israeli flag and sang the national anthem in a provocative display of political power.

Under a fragile, decades-old agreement known as the status quo, non-Muslim prayer is banned at the site, known to Muslims as al-Haram al-Sharif compound and to Jews as the Temple Mount.

"The US draft resolution yesterday to terminate UNRWA is not a passing event"
◽ Targeting UNRWA is not merely a funding crisis... it is a direct targeting of the Palestinian refugee cause.
The US draft resolution is not just about stopping funding or ending the operations of the UNRWA agency; it carries far more dangerous dimensions:
* No alternative organization: No other organization possesses the capacity or operational infrastructure to replace UNRWA in providing education, healthcare, and relief to millions of refugees across its five areas of operations.
* Direct impact: Any cessation of the agency's work will create a vast humanitarian and service vacuum, with immediate consequences for millions of refugees who rely on its essential services.
📌 Conclusion: Defending the continuation of UNRWA’s work is not a defense of an institution or its employees; it is a defense of an ongoing international commitment toward Palestinian refugees, and the continuation of basic services upon which millions depend until a just solution to their cause is found.
💔 Urgent Humanitarian Appeal:
Amid these dire conditions and the collapse of basic services, my family of 8 members is facing severe hardship. We are in desperate need of your help to secure the bare essentials for survival—food, shelter, and medicine.
🙏 Every donation, no matter how small, makes a life-saving difference.

Hundreds of Jewish settlers carried out a coordinated pogrom in the Palestinian village of Sarra in the occupied West Bank on 25 July, burning homes, damaging property, and assaulting residents, following the abduction of dozens of Palestinians by Israeli troops.

According to residents in the village southwest of Nablus, the settler attacks forced several families to flee for safety.

The Palestinian families attempted to defend the village by confronting the attackers, who set at least two homes on fire.
