Smooth and very easy on the ears; Paul Desmond doing what he does best.

One of the best versions of this song. Check this album out.

Very cool story.

A very popular tune back in the day, this song has been performed by everyone from the Benny Goodman quartet, to Phil Woods Orchestra, and many more. But I like this version best.

I hope this gets your Saturday/ Sunday headed in the right direction.

I loved everything about this movie as a kid, but especially this swinging, scat-filled tune. Years later when I'd grown, I found my love for other similar artists, including Cab Calloway, Slim Gaillard, Benny Goodman, and yes, Louis Prima. Thanks to Disney, the Sherman Brothers (song writers), Phil Woods and Prima for the kid friendly introduction.

I was first introduced to Vince Guaraldi (as I believe many others were) through the Peanuts TV shows back in the 60’s and 70’s, and I thoroughly enjoy all of the songs associated with those shows.

But I was pleasantly surprised to discover his love for the Latin flair/style of jazz, and I soon found myself loving the latter more than the former (but only by a little bit 😉).

Edit: grammar

Around 30 years ago, I found a CD series called “Jazz ‘Round Midnight”. Each album featured a different jazz artist with songs they played that were apropos to the series title.

This one by Bill Evans I listened to every night when going to sleep for literally 10 years and never grew tired of it. I can’t say that about any other album or individual song.

Fantastic cover of one of my favourite, beautifully weird Tom Waits songs. Less yodelling than in the Waits version, for better or for worse.

Great scat-singing here by Malou Oheix.

Yeah, you know what I'm talking about, the one just before the solos.

What do you call sections like that? Tutti, interlude, "the crazy part"?

The only other example I know, apart from Chick Corea, is "Las Pulgas Freeway" Eugenio Toussaint. If you know other examples please do share :D

Does anyone know when Newport Jazz Festival will take place in 2024? I see the folk festival dates were just announced to be July 26-28, and the jazz fest is often the following weekend so that would be Aug 2-4. Does anyone actually know?
