A sum that would bankrupt these companies and set an important precedent.

Yesterday, there was news of publishers doing the same. Let's see what other industries follow.

The lawsuit opens a new front in the ongoing battle between creators and tech companies over AI training for infringement.

Last year, Amazon and Google-backed Anthropic had to pay $1.5bn.

Hopefully, the first of many to come...

There are many ways to browse YouTube without ads.

So rather use that subscription to support your favourite creators directly.

  • Dropout TV
  • Critical Role

Including a concern that Google's Pentagon deal could mean mass surveillance of EU citizens.

Google's own staff don't trust them anymore... we shouldn't either.

This change would continue with a series of updates in which Google is pushing its AI search as the default experience.

Fortunately, there are many excellent alternatives out there... no better time to switch.

To name a few: Browser -> Vivaldi, Firefox, Waterfox and Ecosia Search -> Ecosia, Ecosia, Kagi and DuckDuckGo

Another major institution is moving away from Big Tech. More are expected to follow

In the URL, several other Google Drive competitors are tagged Office-Suite Available, but not Proton Drive. Why not? I don't even use it myself, but at least represent your opponents accurately, geez...

For critical public contracts, vendors will be required to ensure that software and hardware are made in the EU.

This will have massive implications for competition and the fight against Google, Amazon and Microsoft's dominance.

Fantastic initiative! The more major institutions push alternatives, the quicker the word can spread of the excellent alternatives out there.

An interesting deep-dive into how Google profiles and values different users.

It highlights that even though the service is "free", the sheer value each user holds to Google from their data and ad-revenue. And with that, the impact you can have by leaving them.

If you haven't already switched, you can check out the guide below to get started:

Taking advantage of a growing movement with 30% week-over-week increase on their page.

There are also other excellent alternatives, though: Kagi, Qwant, Ecosia and Startpage.

Find one that works for you, and make the switch!

To be honest, it is something for everyone to check out, not only Europeans.

Found this a very interesting summary of the current state of the economy.

A reminder that we need to support smaller businesses and break up the consolidation of wealth/power.

These numbers exclude Ecosia, Brave, Qwant and all the other search engines that have seen a surge in sign-ups over the last few days.

You are also seeing people take the opportunity to switch browsers. Vivaldi specifically has reported substantial growth recently.

An excellent, easy-to-implement initiative to break down these monopolies and boost competition in different regions. If only other countries/industries were doing this.

In the absence of any top-down change, it is up to us to make this switch.

Google is making its Search more centred around AI, turning it into a conversation.

Besides being a worse experience, the websites from which it sources its information are losing all traffic and recognition.

Recommend a list of alternatives:

  • Kagi - Paid but better experience than Google
  • Ecosia - Similar experience while supporting a good cause
  • Qwant - Increasingly unique results and building a EU-first index
  • DuckDuckGo - Privacy-focused search, but quality of results may vary

I came across this and thought I'd share it. Not too many video guides.

The more resources out there the better!

Unfortunately it was with Tucker Carlson, but the point is still valid...

We need to stop supporting these companies.

Google will soon require you to provide your phone number first, before giving you 15GB.

But they will still bombard you with sponsored emails.

We need to move away from thinking that services that harvest your data and worsen the experience with injected adverts are "free".

That said, many alternatives do have truly free plans. Check out Proton, IKMail or Atomic Mail, to name a few.

Obviously, the artists currently on there are incredibly niche, but it is free to use and only costs $100 to become a lifetime member.

Exactly the types of initiatives we need to support more.
