I’m glad to announce v0.4.4 release!

Syncspirit is independent BEP protocol implementation. Like syncthing is continuous peer-to-peer file synchronization tool.

You can download ready-to-use binaries for Linux x86_64 (AppImage), Windows 32 bit (WindowsXP is supported), Windows 64 bit and Mac OS X (Apple silicon, xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine syncspirit-fltk.app is required to launch).

Notable changes:

• [fltk] allow to regenereate certificate/key pair and soft restart
• [core] reduce memory consumption to ~30%
• [core] do not consume CPU when idle
• [core] govern file system operations (scan, read, write, delete etc.) from control thread
• [core, bugfix] use system/default ssl root CAs to connect to syncthing infrastructure (might require to delete configuration from previous installation).
• [fltk, bugfix] fogetting to insert deleted folder into pending list

(Syncspirit)[https://github.com/basiliscos/syncspirit/] is a syncthing-compatible is written from the scratch software in C++ as classical desktop application.

Syncspirit source code uses GPLv3 license.

The European Commission has opened a "call for evidence" to help shape its European Open Digital Ecosystem Strategy. The commission is looking to reduce its dependence on software from non-EU countries:

This call for evidence aims to gather feedback from different interested stakeholders, to enrich the strategy with various perspectives.

More specifically, stakeholders are invited to reply to the following questions:

1. What are the strengths and weaknesses of the EU open-source sector? What are the main barriers that hamper (i) adoption and maintenance of high-quality and secure open source; and (ii) sustainable contributions to open‑source communities?

2. What is the added value of open source for the public and private sectors? Please provide concrete examples, including the factors (such as cost, risk, lock-in, security, innovation, among others) that are most important to assess the added value.

3. What concrete measures and actions may be taken at EU level to support the development and growth of the EU open-source sector and contribute to the EU’s technological sovereignty and cybersecurity agenda?

4. What technology areas should be prioritised and why?

5. In what sectors could an increased use of open source lead to increased competitiveness and cyber resilience?

The European Commission has opened a public call for evidence on a forthcoming European Open Digital Ecosystems Strategy. The consultation, which runs from January 6 to February 3, 2026, invites feedback from developers, companies, public administrations, academia, and civil society.

The initiative is expected to culminate in a Commission communication to the European Parliament and the Council, with adoption planned for the first quarter of 2026

Brave Browser, which recently reached more than 100 million users worldwide, has rolled out a major overhaul of its built-in adblocking engine, cutting memory consumption by 75 percent and delivering a measurable performance boost across desktop and mobile platforms. The changes are live starting with Brave v1.85, with further optimizations scheduled for v1.86.

According to the Brave privacy and security team, the reworked adblock engine now saves roughly 45 MB of memory by default on all supported platforms, including Android, iOS, and desktop systems. The savings increase further for users who enable additional filter lists.

Hi!

Do you have any recommendations for an open source money manager? I was looking for something that i can sync offline between phone and PC.

I once tried Money Manager EX but it did feel a bit in an early stage and had some flaws. Also I failed to figure out how to deal with shared accounts (like a bank account you have together with your partner). On the other side it seems that there was a lot of development since I tried this last time.

However, if you have any other recommendations, please let me know! Thanks
