All excellent points. Renewable energy infrastructure created with fossil fuels is a fossil multiplier, so it makes sense to use it to extract and refine hydrocarbon resources which do not have a viable EROEI by themselves but are still much better that synthesis from scratch.

Of course, since there is currently no way to build and maintain renewable energy infrastructure with just renewable inputs, and the window to develop one is closing, the buck will have to stop one day.
