A friend of mine has sent me an invitation to his group, but it's not showing up on the delta chat list. This is screenshot that the friend has sent me. But when I opened my connected email in the browser, it's showing a new mail about a pgp encrypted chat.

What's gone wrong with delta chat ??

Maybe a fool question here... Can i use a chatmail relay adress as an alias email? Is it possible to receive regular email messages in Delta Chat app?

I kept "running out of space" when trying to build the apk for delta chat. Turns out it's trying to build in /tmp, which has a hard limit of a few GBs on Ubuntu; I just need to remount it with more space Can someone mention this in BUILDING.md?

@delta_chat
Hi all, I've changed the password of a (regular) email account I accessed via DC, and I should update the password in the app now. However, I can't find a place to do so. The option I found in the forums (Settings > [account name] > Password and account) seems to no longer exist... thamk you

I setup a chatmail relay yesterday, so if you want to try Delta Chat (or other compatible apps like Arcane), go ahead!

I'm primarily concerned with privacy and security, thus the interest in Delta Chat to begin with, but it seems to me that all the relays (at least the ones on the delta chat site's list, that is) are hosted in 5 eyes countries or countries that will soon be subject to the EU's chat control bullshit, or are in India or South Africa (two countries which I do not know about their own privacy situation, though the SA server is a ".wang" which is hilarious.)

Is there any relay that I can sign up for that's hosted somewhere like Norway, that cares about privacy at least ostensibly? Any other list of available relays?

I'm sure "it doesn't matter because e2ee," but assuredly some metadata must still exist, like sender/recipient or something. Unfortunately self hosting isn't an option currently as idk how to do that sort of thing just yet (one day) and also I'm in a 5 eyes country, so I'd have to VPS it somewhere.

Hey everyone, does anyone know how to show link previews in groups? I heard about Instant View and Web Grabber, but can't find them in the public bot directory.

I'm not selfhosting

Self-hosted Delta Chat?

I've been thinking more about the hurtle of getting friends and family to use federated/self-hosted services. One of the issues to onboarding is people not "getting" the idea of picking an instance. This has led, in part, to "default" instances, like mastadon.social, that grow so large it almost defeates the idea.

I've been thinking that I really wish #DeltaChat had a web client. I have had a MUCH more difficult time getting folks to try that out than even #fediverse SNS. But I was thinking how the heck are you going to pull that off without @delta having to host the overhead for a robust web client and possibly host a gigantic server system that has to grow exponentially to keep everyone's email from all the possible email providers, really defeating the goal of their project.

This morning, I thought of a possible solution to both problems. What if you have a built-in transfer requirement. So you start with a default, say pleb.joinmastodon.org or noob.delta.chat and after a certain time (3 months or something) you have to either transfer to a new instance, including hosting your own client for in browser decryption web access to your encrypted mail chats or your account (in the case of #mastodon) or web client access (in the case of Delta Chat) is shut off.

Do you think this could work?

Estoy recomendando #DeltaChat a mis familiares y amistades: https://delta.chat/ / @delta_chat

Hi all! I’m working on my cyber security bachelor’s thesis and am reaching out to gather insights from users who use decentralized messaging applications.

I would be incredibly thankful if you could find the 2 to 4 minutes to fill out the form. Your experience in the matter is incredibly valuable.

You’ll find the survey at https://questionnaire.ink/412758

Your responses are confidential and will be used solely for supporting my thesis. No personally identifiable information is collected.

Thanks!

Rumour: Meego? (lemmy.zip)

Rumour is surrounding the communities over Meego, yes the OS of the old and almost mythical Nokia N9. Apparently one user made a compilation of Delta Cursed (the lightwe terminal alternative for DC). Truth or not, let's have the fingers crossed
